Laundry & Dish

Dishwashers, washers and dryers are best compared on capacity, hookups and the official energy and water figures. The numbers below are calculated from the official ENERGY STAR data for 727 dishwashers, 418 clothes washers and 669 clothes dryers (listings of the same model are merged; data updated 2026-11-06).

What matters when choosing

Capacity

Dishwashers list 2 to 18 place settings (median 14), clothes washers 1.9 to 6 cu ft (median 4.5) and dryers 3.8 to 9.2 cu ft (median 7.4). Compare capacity only within the same type, and check the cabinet size against your space.

Dishwasher energy and water

Listed annual energy use runs 80 to 240 kWh and water use 1 to 3.2 gallons per cycle. 31 of 727 models are listed as compact and the rest as standard.

Washer efficiency and load type

283 of 418 washers are listed as front load and 135 as top load. IMEF (higher is more efficient) runs 2.06 to 3.2 and IWF (lower uses less water) 2.6 to 4.3.

Dryer type, venting and efficiency

472 dryers are listed as electric and 189 as gas; 123 are ventless and 81 list heat pump technology. CEF (higher is more efficient) runs 2.68 to 11.5. Match fuel, voltage and venting to the hookups you have.

Smart features

8 dishwashers, 9 washers and 13 dryers list connected capability. The dataset does not name the app or platform.

Noise

The ENERGY STAR data used here has no sound level for these products (n/c). Use the maker’s own specification sheet for decibels.
